I bought the Sorrento after using an entry level all around board for a few years and have noticed a HUGE difference! The Honu is so much faster and smoother and I haven't had any issues balancing even though it's narrower than my first board. One of the selling points was the rear cargo area since I'm often out all day with a bunch of gear and a cooler. The white elastics look kind of odd and unfinished so I'll probably replace it with a regular crisscross bungee at some point. Other than that, no notes! It's a visually pleasing board that paddles like a dream.
The board is of exceptional quality.
It's a pleasure to use this board. Even from the setup you can tell you've purchased quality. It's fun to take on the water. For me this board is a little shaky in the open ocean. Definitely erforms better on the lake. If I'm being picky, it's hard to clean the dirt off of the footpad, and I wish the screws held a little tighter on the three-piece paddle. They need to be re-tightened after every ride. Having said all that. I have no regrets, an exceptional purchase and a lot of fun to use.
Very stiff, glides nicely across the water, Lightweight Fast and great tracking. Handles waves and chop fine. It is made for paddling. Stability is good for a 30 inch wide board, it is more stable when moving vs standing still. The Board looks nice and is very well built. Plenty of tie down areas for gear, you could easily pack enough for a camping trip. Customer service was great when updating me on my order status. Shipped exactly when they said it would free shipping. Would be cool if you could put a sail on it Mark?
This is my first higher end isup and worth every penny. The shape and quality is top notch. The board handles very well but definitely requires a bit of skill so better for intermediates at least or a beginner who is fit and comfortable balancing. Mark and team are great. I cant recommend this board highly enough. Buy it!!
This board is so fucking cool. I started supping on a fibreglass 10ft board but recently had to uphaul my life from a pristine tiny coastal town to the city and i didn't want to have to not SUP board anymore. I'm more of a tourer on the SUP than a surfer or anything else, I like to get kms in. This board is so hard its not even funny, I couldn't believe that part considering it is inflatable. Unfortunately for me though I'm a 59kg woman who does if I'm being completely honest struggle to get that last little bit of air into it to reach 18psi, pretty exhausting for me and then folding it back up was a little funny at first but you get the hang of it, I don't think the pump quite fits in the bag either (the bag with wheels is so fucking good too, not knocking it!) So you'll need to carry that separately somehow. On the bag, i am so stoked it came with the board! I should've provably got a better paddle though. I started at bottom range there, its kind of small (the actual surface area of the paddle that strikes the water) compared to the one I had on my other board but I mean I can always swap. Beautiful work by Honu, stoked it went ahead with this. And with a pretty insane weight rating I can pop my nieces and nephews on there with me, potentially a dog, I can carry a mate so long as their not over 75kg 😂🙌 fantastic work guys. Appreciate it.
The ease of cutting through the water, the rigidity of the board, the peace this things brings is worth its weight in gold
I bought a board before the honu and its tracking was terrible which led me into a search for a better tracking board that was also faster and this board does it all. I even bought another board for my husband who also loves it. if you’re questioning whether to buy it, I would say yes.
I owned a Byron 10'6"(which I liked very much) before I decided to buy the Sorrento and based on the reviews I read, I was afraid to buy it and hesitated for about three months, because most of my paddling is in Lake Ontario which is rarely flat like you see in those YouTube videos when they review touring and race boards. Byron is super stable and versatile and even good for surfing, especially the 9'8" version which my son has and I was very much afraid that I won't be able to use the Sorrento on Lake Ontario which looks most of the time like a boiling pot, and that's how it was when I took the Sorrento out for the first time. To my pleasant surprise, I had no problem standing up on the board(although I expected to get wet) and cut through the giant swell at a much higher speed than the Byron. The board is stable enough with my 80Kg even in rough water and it gets even better when you add extra weight(2 kids in my case) because it sinks deeper in the water, and unlike other reviewers said, you can definitely travel with a pet or a second rider.
The board is very stiff and I cannot feel any flexing when I accelerate or when I cut through the swell. Step back turning is easy, and maneuverability in general is excellent. Trying to surf on the Sorento is challenging unless you go in straight line but it was never intended for surfing. Speed, on the other hand, is great. Although it's a bit narrower than the Byron, the Sorrento is very stable because it is a much stiffer board, which compensates for its narrow width. I'm very pleased with the Sorrento and the only time I take the Byron now is only in surfing conditions.
I was happy with my prior fairly expensive board but when a friend offered to buy it I started dreaming of something new. It didn’t take long to decide on the Honu. For starters, this board is gorgeous and I admire it every time I use it. The Sorrento tracks like a dream and is exceptionally stiff. The board is noticeably faster than other inflatables as soon as you start moving. An added bonus when I’m off the board is the light weight and small size for transport. I recommend using a boat strap to secure the board after loosely rolling it up, this has the added bonus of being a useful carry handle and allows the board to completely dry out. Buy this board, I promise it will far exceed your expectations.
The award-winning Sorrento features a new look, a revised outline, with a sharper displacement hull designed to enhance speed and navigate choppy open waters more effectively. Moreover, the new Sorrento reduces its thickness by 1cm, making it just 5.5" thick, which significantly improves stability and connection to the water.
Designed for those wanting to paddle further. The Sorrento paddles easily in a straight line while remaining stable enough for all but total beginner paddlers and has enough anchor points for weekend camping tips. This sweet spot of speed and stability makes it the perfect board for riders who want to go far, fast, on their morning paddle, leading a local SUP event or weekend camping adventure. For the weekend racers, the rear flat bungie straps can now be removed for easy step-back turns around the buoys.
Crafted from our NEW 5.5" thick X-woven & fused material which is then enhanced by stacked carbon stringers & carbon/ welded rails. The rails are made by using heat+pressure welding to mechanically fuse the inner rail with a 25mm wide strip. Then a 50mm 3K carbon rail is bonded into the rail for added stiffness and protection before the outer rail is finally applied.
