Stand Up Paddleboards

Our stand-up paddleboard range has drawn inspiration from the Australian environment by paying homage to some of its most famous beaches. With over 10,000 beaches, Australia's unique geography is known for vibrant coral, colourful beach boxes, and glowing sunsets.

The Honu Evolution series is deliberately simple, but the most advanced materials and construction methods available today lie in its simplicity.

Our X-woven and Fused drop-stitch material is around 20% lighter than comparable double-layer boards while being more rigid and higher performing. You can see some of our boards tested by media outlets such as SUP Boarder Mag, where our boards measure as being the lightest and stiffest in their class.

About Honu Stand Up Paddleboards

To many of our newer customers, we look and feel very new; however, as a brand, Honu is now over 20 years old. This changed in 2019 when, under new leadership, was sent back to be effectively a start-up. Every product was designed from the ground up with new materials, designs, and construction.

Even the existing distribution partners were scrapped. Despite the brand's age, Honu in 2022 and beyond is a scrappy upstart in the paddleboard market, pushing boundaries in quality and performance. The result of this re-launch is what you now see.

Our commitment to performance was a conscious decision. We decided to make the best possible products we could in a way that would maximise their life to keep them out of landfills. The basic principle is, if we can make it better, we do.

What Customers Love about Honu Paddleboards

A few features of our boards have connected well with our customers. First and foremost, we would say the board weights are very appreciated. Honu boards are the lightest you will find in every category, making it easy to paddle, move around, or even lift onto some car racks. Light-weight boards often will let you down on the performance side of the equation, which is where our boards stand out. Not only are they the lightest, but in nearly every case, they are the stiffest or equal with the most rigid available. And this is achieved while being 4.7 inches thick, not the standard 6 inches. (Excluding the Sorrento)

So a Honu SUP:

Is Light

Is High Performing

Is thinner than most

Why is 4.7" Better than 6"?

We get asked this a lot because when researching paddleboards, most folks will realise that the vast majority are 6" thick. The advantages of a thinner board are clear. By standing closer to the water level, you are closer to the point of movement, giving the rider a better sense of balance and stability.

So why are most boards 6 inches?

Simply because of the cheaper material and construction used. The thicker a board is, the lower the pressure is needed to keep it stiff in the water which is why most boards need to go with the standard 6 inches depth. Because of our X-woven material and triple-bonded rails, we are able to use the thinner material depth. Honu, along with a few other high-end brands, offers this level of performance.

Why Doesn't Honu iSuP Package Include a Paddle?

By not including a default paddle in our SUP package, we don't risk anyone paying for something they don't want. No matter what style or quality level we chose, around 30% of people wouldn't want what was included, another 30% of people would use it, even though it isn't quite right, or what they wanted, with around 40% of people feeling like the paddle is perfect for them. And we don't like that. We want Honu people to love every bit of kit they purchase from us and that is why you get to choose your preferred paddle.

Already have a paddle you love... Great, don't add in a paddle and just grab the board with the bag, pump, and accessories.

Want to keep the package price down with something good but affordable? Grab an Element Paddle.

Appreciate high performance and low weight... Go for an Evolution series paddle.

By giving our paddlers a choice, they can choose what they want and not risk paying for something they don't need or want.
